It’s that time again for some fun homework on snow! The Third Annual Schools on Skis will be held on Thursday, March 23, at Birch Hill Recreation Area

Festivities last from 4:30 to 5:30pm. Activities include trail skiing, obstacle courses, downhill slaloms, hot cocoa, and fires for roasting s’mores and hot dogs. All local school ski programs have been invited to participate and are asked to bring volunteers to help. Student-to-parent ratios should be no more than 10-1. Older kids will be doing a longer course, while younger kids will be doing shorter courses. All courses will be right around the stadium and doable even for kids with just basic skiing skills.

Parents and families are encouraged to ski along with their children. People can wear anything that’s comfortable—old skis, new skis, jeans and sweatshirts—whatever works! If you don’t have your own skis, Trax Outdoor Center will rent ski packages for just $10 for this event.

This event is all about getting as many people as possible—kids and adults—outside for a fun afternoon of skiing. It is sponsored by the University Park Elementary School Ski Club, Trax Outdoor Center, and the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks.
