Wednesday Evening Intervals
Sept 9th – Oct 21st | 5:30 – 7:00 pm
These classes are for any adult skier (over the age of 18) that wants to keep their motivation high and gain ski specific strength and fitness before the snow flies. All intervals are done uphill using either ski walking or bounding. Both of which are dry-land forms of ski imitation that can help you improve not only your fitness but ski technique as well! The group happily accommodates different fitness levels, but participants should have a baseline fitness of being able to jog ~20 minutes continuously. No prior experience with ski walking or bounding needed.
Friday Morning Yoga
Oct 9th – Nov 13th | 9:15 – 10:15 am
FXC Masters is very excited to continue to offer yoga with instructor Amy Kulp. The reality is without balance and strength, good ski technique is impossible! Amy brings so much energy and joy to everything she does, this class is not to be missed! All abilities and experience levels welcome!
Winter 2026-27 Programming will be announced in mid October!
MEET THE COACHES
ROSIE FRANKOWSKI
After experiencing -60F temps in winter 2024, Rosie (strangely) decided to start spending more time in Fairbanks and has since taught yoga classes and coached for FXC Masters when available. For the last two seasons, Rosie has directed both the Masters and Adult Lessons programs for NSCF. With her background in ski racing collegiately at NMU and professionally for APU Nordic Ski Center, Rosie brings her experience from high-level racing and training to share with the Masters group, particularly enjoying coaching intervals with her high energy enthusiam. As a racer, Rosie raced at the 2018 Olympics, 2019 World Championships, and on the World Cup circuit from 2018-2022. Her favorite way to ski race nowadays is in sequins, wigs, and outrageous colorful clothing.
CHRISTINA TURMAN
Christina is the founder of FXC Masters, and while she now works for UAF in Admissions, she still brings her energy and intensity to interval classes. Christina skied and ran collegiately at Northern Michigan University. After her return to Fairbanks, Christina quickly jumped into coaching and has been coaching ever since. She got her first taste of coaching with the West Valley High School team in 2013, then spent 4 seasons coaching at UAF. For the last several years, Christina has been coaching with the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks. Christina is a high-energy coach with a lot of passion for Fairbanks, skiing, and racing. Christina loves using coaching as an avenue to share her passion with others!
ANJA MAIJALA
Anja grew up running and skiing along the North Shore of Lake Superior. She moved to Fairbanks to attend UAF and compete on the running and ski teams. After falling in love with the Fairbanks community and area, she decided to stay and has spent the last few years trying out different jobs and exploring the endless trails, rivers, and mountains in the region. When she isn’t out skiing or running, she’s probably teaching food security workshops in rural Alaska villages, doing fisheries field work, working at a local farm, or boogieing to live music. Anja thoroughly enjoys being involved with NSCF as she loves to spread the joy of Nordic skiing and the outdoors. She is excited to work hard and grow together as athletes!
AMY KULP
Amy Kulp teaches Yoga classes for FXC Masters. She is an RYT-200 and finds yoga the perfect complement to skiing, biathlon, and life. Teaching and attending yoga classes have been a source of joy, challenge, and encouragement; Amy intends to bring these to her space, whether it be the yoga studio or the trail. Life needs more cowbell AND more yoga!
SAM DELAMERE
Sam Delamere has been sliding around on skis for many years. Growing up in Fairbanks, he skied with FXC and West Valley High School. He then decided to flee Alaska’s harsh winters, escaping to the harsh winters of Maine, where he skied for Bates College. After college, he left the world of hot-and-fast, high-speed racing behind, finding new skiing mentorship from the bears, moose, and birds of the Chena Rec Area. He hopes to bring the philosophies of the snowshoe hare to bounding classes, the glide of a river otter to technique sessions, and the intensity of a hungry wolf to interval workouts.
KENNY BREWER
We are so lucky to have Kenny as an FXC Master’s coach. Kenny is a talented runner and skier, a great coach, and an even better person. Kenny is an alumnus of the UAF Running and Nordic program from 2011 – 2015. When not coaching, you may find him out on the trails or working in the Emergency room. While Kenny is partial to classic skiing, he says nothing beats spring skate skiing. Kenny’s favorite Masters workout is the team sprint day, and like any good ski coach, he loves to tell people to “get their hips forward.”
