COACHES

Volunteer coaches are the backbone of our program! Please contact us at juniornordics@nscfairbanks.org if you’re interested in joining. No experience is necessary, particularly for our youngest skiers, just a fun attitude and a love of skiing!

SCHEDULE

The Junior Nordics schedule fluctuates depending on the time of year. Look at our full calendar to see how this schedule looks throughout the calendar year.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Junior Nordics is an opportunity for children to enjoy the Fairbanks winter while learning the sport of cross country skiing. Children ages 5 to 14 of all abilities are welcome to join and learn a sport they can pursue for a lifetime. The emphasis is on fun, fitness, and learning proper technique. Junior Nordics skiers receive instruction in both classical and skate techniques from enthusiastic and dedicated coaches. Skiers learn proper care and handling of equipment, trail etiquette, good sportsmanship and how to act responsibly in the outdoors. A typical practice session will include a warm-up period, a lesson in a technique, and appropriate length group ski on the trails, ending with a fun activity.

Volunteer

Want to join the community? The NSCF Jr. Nordics program depends on volunteer coaches, and we need your support to keep this wonderful program going. It takes 50+ parent/high school helpers and dedicated NSCF community members to make our skiing happen for the youth in Fairbanks. We have opportunities for ALL LEVELS of coaching. Mostly, what our students need is to have an adult out leading the group who is positive and–most importantly–helps them have FUN! We also have events that we put on that need volunteers to pull off. Please contact us if you’re interested in helping at juniornordics@nscfairbanks.org.

Weather Cancellations

Due to very limited access to indoor facilities this season, practices will be cancelled if temperature is colder than -5F.  Cancellation notices will be sent out via e-mail two hours before the start of lessons. The NSCF does not guarantee the number of lessons due to the unpredictability of the weather.
